green-comet

The last sighting of the comet occurred 50,000 years ago.

According to Nasa, the frosty visitor was first observed in March 2022 while orbiting Jupiter.

It has been visible via binoculars in the Northern Hemisphere for several weeks, but it will be closest to Earth – and brightest – on Wednesday.

“Comets are typically unpredictable, but if this one maintains its present brightness trend, it’ll be simple to identify,” Nasa stated earlier this month on its blog.

“Under gloomy skies, it’s possible it may become visible to the unassisted eye.”

According to Nasa, the ice celestial body, known as C/2022 E3 (ZTF), will make its closest approach to the sun on January 12 before reaching its closest approach to Earth on February 2.

It will be around 26 million miles (42 million kilometers) distant from the earth at that moment.
